Victor Rodriguez, 48, Paralyzed After Chula Vista Hit-and-Run Crash
CHULA VISTA, CA (May 24, 2021) – A hit-and-run crash last year on Flower Street in Chula Vista left Victor Rodriguez paralyzed.
ABC 10 News wrote that the 48-year-old Imperial Beach man was the victim of the accident which occurred on October 26, 2020.
The incident happened when Victor Rodriguez was riding a bicycle in the 500 block of Flower Street in Chula Vista. He was trying to make a left turn into the E Street trolley station entrance at the time.
Bicyclist Hit by Car on Flower Street
Police said for an unknown reason, a vehicle struck him from behind. The impact forced Victor Rodriguez into a parked car nearby.
The victim sustained a severed spine, cracked ribs and a punctured lung as a result of the collision. Paramedics rushed him to a hospital, where doctors told him he was paralyzed from the waist down.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the driver did not stop to render aid to the bicyclist and soon fled the area. Officials described the car involved as a maroon Jeep, possibly a Jeep Cherokee.
Authorities are still searching for the suspect. The Chula Vista hit-and-run crash is still under investigation. Family members set up a GoFundMe page to help cover the medical expenses of Rodriguez.
