Wanted Driver Joe Martinez, 62, Injured in Hesperia Fatal Head-On Crash
HESPERIA, CA (October 27, 2021) – Authorities identified Joe Martinez as the driver who caused a fatal head-on crash in Hesperia.
Deputies said the 62-year-old man was wanted in a criminal threats investigation when he killed a woman in a wreck on Tuesday.
The incident began when Joe Martinez fled from a home in Hesperia after a verbal altercation with family members. He drove his 2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser north on Hesperia Road.
For an unknown reason, Joe Martinez veered into the southbound lane and slammed head-on into a 2008 Honda CR-V. The two cars crashed, north of Eucalyptus Street.
EunHee Sims, 62, Killed in Crash
The driver of the Honda, 62-year-old EunHee Sims, died at the scene. The Victor Valley News wrote that the accident took place on October 26 at about 7:06 p.m.
Joe Martinez ended up trapped inside his vehicle as a result of the crash. Firefighters along with the paramedics soon extricated him from the wreckage.
Medical personnel first took him to the Desert Valley Hospital where they airlifted him to a trauma center with unspecified injuries.
Meanwhile, police processed an arrest warrant for the criminal threats against the man. Witnesses believed that Joe Martinez was under the influence at the time of the wreck.
The cause of Hesperia crash is still under investigation.
