6 Injured in West Covina Crash on 10 Freeway Near Holt Avenue
WEST COVINA, CA (January 1, 2022) – Several were seriously injured after a car crash on the 10 Freeway near Holt Avenue in West Covina.
According to an article published by My News LA, the accident took place late Friday night. Officers reported the wreck on New Year’s Eve, December 31, at about 11:41 p.m.
The incident began when for an unknown reason, a 2020 Kia Optima struck the rear a 2007 Ford Expedition on the westbound 10 Freeway in West Covina.
The Ford spun out of control and slammed into the center divider wall, east of Holt Avenue. The California Highway Patrol said the Optima spun into traffic lanes and then hit a 2022 Toyota Highlander.
Multiple Cars Collide
The 25-year-old Palmdale man driving the Optima and his two 26-year-old passengers, a man and a woman from Chicago, sustained major injuries. Paramedics took them to the Pomona Valley Hospital Regional Medical Center.
A male passenger in the Highlander suffered major injuries. The driver of the Toyota, a 36-year-old woman, complained of pain, and a man traveling with her obtained minor abrasions to his chest.
Medical personnel took them to Los Angeles County/USC Medical Center for treatment. The report did not disclose the names of the wounded parties and their condition at this time.
Meanwhile, CHP soon arrested the motorist in the Kia. Officers forced the westbound lanes of the 10 Freeway to shut down near Holt Avenue following the wreck.
The cause of the West Covina crash is still under investigation.
