2 Killed, 5 Injured in Yreka Crash on State Route 3 Near Forest Mountain
YREKA, CA (June 4, 2023) – A crash killed two people and injured several others on State Route 3 near Forest Mountain Summit south of Yreka.
According to the Action News Now and KRCRTV News, the tragic accident took place on Saturday night. Officers reported the wreck on June 3 at around 9:25 p.m.
The incident happened when a Ford pickup truck was going south on State Route 3, south of Forest Mountain Summit, near Yreka. At the same time, a Honda Pilot was traveling north.
For an unknown reason, the Ford swerved off-road. The pickup truck tried to veer back onto the road, and in the process, spun out of control.
2 Cars Collide
The California Highway Patrol said the Ford went into oncoming traffic and then slammed into the right side of the Honda. The driver and the passenger of the pickup truck died at the scene.
The five occupants of the Pilot ended up hurt as a result of the collision. The operator of the Honda and three juvenile passengers sustained major injuries, while the fourth juvenile survived with minor injuries.
Medical personnel rushed all five victims to the Fairchild Medical Center in Yreka for treatment. The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released.
Meanwhile, CHP forced the southbound lanes of State Route 3 to shut down for a time following the wreck. The cause of the fatal Yreka crash is still under investigation.
