1 Killed, 2 Badly Injured in Yreka Wrong-Way Crash on Interstate 5

YREKA, CA (November 1, 2022) – A wrong-way crash killed one person and badly injured two others on the Interstate 5 near the Grenada Irrigation District in Yreka.

According to an article published by the Siskiyou Daily News, the tragic accident took place on Sunday night. Officers reported the wreck on October 30 at about 9:18 p.m.

The incident happened when a gray 2017 Honda CRV was traveling north on the southbound Interstate 5 near the Grenada Irrigation District in Yreka.

At the same time, a 2023 Ford E-450 U-Haul van was going south. The California Highway Patrol said the Honda then slammed head-on into the van.

Driver Hits U-Haul Van

Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived and pronounced the wrong-way driver, a 37-year-old Grover Beach man, dead at the scene.

Two people riding the U-Haul sustained moderate injuries as a result of the collision. Medical personnel rushed them to the Fairchild Medical Center for treatment.

The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released. Meanwhile, the cause of the fatal Yreka wrong-way crash is still under investigation.

Officers forced the southbound lanes of the Interstate 5 to shut down for a time near irrigation district following the wreck.
