2 Killed in Yuba County Crash on Highway 70 Near Lower Honcut Road
YUBA COUNTY, CA (March 29, 2021) – A car crash killed two people along Highway 70 near Lower Honcut Road in Yuba County.
According to the Action News Now and KRCRTV News, the tragic accident occurred on Monday morning. Officers reported the wreck at around 6:18 a.m. between Oroville and Marysville.
The incident happened when a Ford F-250 was traveling at a high rate of speed south on Highway 70, south of Lower Honcut Road. The pickup was swerving between lanes at the time.
The speeding truck then slammed head-on into a Ford Explorer. The SUV was going north on the highway, just north of Chandler Road, prior to the collision.
Head-On Collision Between Oroville and Marysville
The California Highway Patrol said Explorer went off the east shoulder, overturned and caught fire. The pickup rolled over in the northbound lane and collided with a Lexus RX350.
The 38-year-old Paradise man operating the truck and the 31-year-old Yuba City man driving the Explorer died at the scene. Their names have not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
CHP added that the motorist in the Lexus, 41-year-old San Jose resident Dung Trung Huynh, ended up unharmed as a result of the wreck
Meanwhile, officials forced Highway 70 near Lower Honcut to shut down for a time following the crash. The cause of the fatal collision is still under investigation.
