Major Collision at Highway 165 and Williams Avenue
Merced County, CA (August 22, 2022) – Zoe Maria Canto, a 20-year-old woman, suffered serious injuries following a traffic accident that occurred on Highway 165.
According to Merced Sun-Star News, two vehicles collided near Williams Avenue Saturday afternoon. Earlier reports indicated Canto, of Atwater, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado heading east on Williams. When the woman approached the intersection at Highway 165, Canto apparently stopped at a posted stop sign. The woman eventually proceeded and was hit by a 2015 Freightliner heading south on SR-165.
The crash took place at about 1:47 p.m.

When rescue teams arrived at the location, they found Canto ejected onto the roadway. Responding paramedics rendered first aid to the Zoe Maria Canto, then transported her to Doctors Medical Center for further treatment and evaluation.
The driver of the Freightliner pulling two trailers of grapes, 56-year-old Ruben Sicairos, appeared unharmed after the incident.
Detectives stayed at the scene the whole afternoon. At this time, they continue to investigate exactly how and why the crash happened on Highway 165 in Merced County.
