3 Injured in Hit-and-run Crash in Downtown Sacramento
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (April 16, 2024) — A driver in an SUV struck three pedestrians Sunday night at a homeless encampment on a Dos Rios Street sidewalk in a Sacramento.
The traffic accident occurred between northbound B Street and D Street at around 5:24 p.m. on April 14th in downtown Sacramento, according to KCRA News.
Police have surveillance video showing a driver in a black Chevrolet Tahoe turning the corner and driving up onto the sidewalk into some tents where it ran over three people, CBS News reports. The SUV also hit the side of a small building, a sign post, a fence and a shopping cart as it fled the scene.
The Sacramento Fire Department sent paramedics to help those injured and all three people were transported to hospitals with major injuries. Two of the pedestrians were listed in critical condition, but were stable. However, the third pedestrian was in critical condition due to significant injuries.
Meanwhile, the Sacramento Police Department is actively searching for the suspect and or vehicle involved in the pedestrian accident.
