Driver Hits Bicycle Riders on State Route 9 in Santa Cruz County
SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. (Feb. 28, 2024) — An elderly woman struck four bicyclists Tuesday night in a crash on Highway 9, just south of Glengarry Road in Santa Cruz County.
The major injury collision occurred at around 6:21 p.m. on Feb. 27th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The 85-year-old Boulder Creek woman was driving a Kia Forte northbound on state Highway 9 in Santa Cruz County when her car went off the roadway and struck four southbound bicyclists, the The Mercury News said. The vehicle also crashed into a tree and came to a stop.
Two of the riders were critically injured and airlifted to a local hospital. The two others had undisclosed injuries and were transported by ground ambulance to a hospital.
Furthermore, the driver from the Kia had minor injuries, but she was not transported anywhere.
Traffic investigators are working to determine what led up to the crash with the bicyclists on Highway 9.
