5 Tips to Make Mother’s Day Special and One to Remember

What Makes Mother's Day Special

More than $31 billion was spent on Mother’s Day last year in the United States, but the most popular gift was a simple greeting card.

In fact, some 152 million cards are sent to mother’s every year to celebrate Mother’s Day. The tradition began back in 1914 when President Woodrow Wilson designated the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day. But the idea was initiated by Julia Ward Howe who wrote the “Battle Hymn of the Republic” and suggested there should be a Mother’s Day in 1872.

Those of us at Johnson Attorneys Group know how important mothers are so we put together some ideas on how to make Mother’s Day special.

There are lots of ways to show appreciation to your mom and you don’t have to spend a bunch of money. One way to make the holiday special is to personalize a card, gift or experience to reflect your own mother’s interests.

Top 5 Tips to Make Mother’s Day One to Remember:

What Makes Mother's Day Special

Breakfast in bed:

Let your mom sleep in and bringing her breakfast in bed. Cook her a favorite meal or bring her a nice basket of baked goods. Bring it to her on a tray with flowers and don’t forget her favorite coffee, tea or drink.

Gift basket:

What are your mom’s interests? Gardening, reading, sunbathing, movies, cycling, traveling, etc. Plan ahead and create a personalized gift basket with your mom’s favorite things reflecting what she loves to do or with her favorite snacks, drinks, and other goodies.

Outdoor activity:

May is a great time to head outdoors and have a picnic in the park, a hike in the mountains, a beach day or go for a bike ride. Plan an activity together with your mom and other family members to make it a memorable day.

Family photo shoot:

Most mothers enjoy taking family photos so why not create a nice setting with props, ask everyone to dress in matching colors and have a family photo shoot? Step it up a notch and hire a professional photographer or use a tripod and take the photos yourself. You can also buy a nice photo frame and print her favorite photo from the shoot.

Make a Special Meal for Lunch or Dinner:

Whether you make reservations and take mom out to dinner or cook favorite a meal at home, spending time over a meal is always a good choice. If you are staying home, set the table with flowers and print out a menu for the table for even more impact.

Finally, remember that your mother most likely just wants to spend time with you and she will be happy if you show her any appreciation on Mother’s Day.

Johnson Attorney’s Group would like to wish you a happy Mother’s Day.
