Deadly Crash on Highway 99 in Chico
CHICO, Calif. (Sept. 21, 2021) – A fatal Chico crash on Highway 99 early Tuesday happened near Cohasset Road.
One person is dead after the 8 a.m. crash near the Cohasset Rd. off ramp between East 1st Ave, according to California Highway Patrol.
A driver in a Ford Transit van with paper plates reportedly caused the collision.
The Ford van passed a white Toyota Scion on the right side, leaving about one foot between the two vehicles.
The driver in the Scion reportedly lost control and wound up veering off the highway and down an embankment. That’s where the Scion struck a tree and overturned. Sadly, the Scion driver suffered major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, the driver in the transit van with no side windows was transporting medical supplies. The CHP report did not provide the company’s name.
Police say the collision is not considered a hit and run. However, the CHP would like to speak with the driver of the transit van or anyone with more information about the deadly crash in Chico. Witnesses may contact the Chico CHP station.
