Bystander Killed by Drag Racer on Kerns Street in Otay Mesa
OTAY MESA, Calif. (Nov. 1, 2021) — Quarann Lottie, 32, of Compton, died early Sunday morning when a driver lost control during a drag race and struck him on Kerns Street in Otay Mesa.
The deadly crash happened about 6 a.m. on Sunday, October 31 in an industrial area near the U.S.-Mexico border, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner.
The spectator was watching the street race between two drivers as they traveled westbound on Kerns Street, San Diego police said.
Deadly Crash on Kerns Street
As they approached La Media Road, the 28-year-old driver of a 1993 Ford Mustang lost control of the car. The Mustang reportedly veered into eastbound lanes, jumped the curb and struck Quarann Maurice Ray Lottie. Sadly, the innocent bystander suffered major injuries and died at the scene.
The white Mustang also struck a fire hydrant during the crash. Police questioned witnesses at the scene of the crash.
Additionally, the report did not mention if any arrests were made. However, authorities did confirm that alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash.
