Oceanside Man, 63, Killed in Crash on North Coast Highway 101
ENCINITAS (March 22, 2022) – Anthony Louis Avila, 63, of Oceanside, died Thursday in a motorcycle versus SUVr crash on North Coast Highway 101.
The collision happened at 3:49 p.m. on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17th, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner.
Anthony Avila was riding southbound on a motorcycle behind another motorist in the No. 2 lane, just north of Grandview Street.
Just before the bike reached the intersection, the motorcycle rider allegedly made a left-hand turn into the fast lane. The rider attempted to pass the vehicle in front of him. However, police say “an SUV traveling eastbound on Grandview Street had crossed into the decedent’s lane of travel to make a left turn into the northbound lanes.”
The motorcycle collided with the SUV and also hit a vehicle parked next to the sidewalk.
First responders located the motorcyclist lying unconscious on the ground. However, despite life-saving measures by paramedics, the rider later succumbed to his injuries by 4 p.m., the report said.
Meanwhile, the occupants in the car appeared unharmed after the collision with the motorcyclist.
The San Diego Sheriff’s Department is working on the case to determine fault for the fatal crash on North Coast Highway 101.
