Suspect Arrested in Fatal Hit-Run in Huntington Beach
HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (April 15, 2022) — Huntington Beach police arrested Blake Robert Patraw, 23, on hit-and-run charges after he allegedly fled the scene of a pedestrian accident on Yorktown Avenue that killed John Carroll Stout, 81.
The elderly, Huntington Beach man died Thursday at the hospital after Patraw allegedly struck him about 5 p.m. on April 14th just east of Newland Street in Huntington Beach.
The Huntington Beach Police Department arrested Patraw the next day about 9:52 a.m. on April 15th. He faces charges of hit-and-run resulting in a death or injury, according to police.
John Stout was reportedly crossing Yorktown outside of a marked crosswalk in a northbound direction. A driver in a silver Toyota Prius, believed to be Blake Patraw, struck the man and fled the scene. Paramedics responded and rushed John Stout to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.
Suspected Hit-and-run Driver Arrested
Investigators began searching for the suspect’s vehicle described as a gray 2016 to 2018 Toyota Prius. A piece of the car was left at the scene. Investigators also received numerous tips on social medial that helped lead them to the suspect.
