Suspected DUI Driver Hits Bicycle Rider in Fatal Sunset Beach Crash
HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (August 10, 2022) — A fatal Huntington Beach bicycle accident happened Tuesday night on Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) near Admiralty Drive in the Sunset Beach area.
The deadly crash happened about 6 p.m. on August 9th, according to KTLA News. and the Huntington Beach Police Department.
The 42-year-old man riding a bicycle was apparently traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Pacific Coast Highway, the report said. Meanwhile, the driver in a 2018 Toyota RAV4 was headed southbound on PCH, just north of Admiralty Drive, Huntington Beach Police Department said.
Barbara Front, 70, of Long Beach, was driving the Toyota and stopped following the collision. Paramedics responded and rushed the injured bicyclist to a hospital where he later died from his injuries. His name was not released.
Meanwhile, police who responded to the scene suspected the motorist was allegedly under the influence of drugs. She was subsequently arrested on suspicion of DUI after the Huntington Beach bicycle accident.
