One Dead in Fiery, 3-Vehicle Crash in East Hollywood
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (May 8, 2023) — A fatal wrong-way crash happened on the Hollywood 101 Freeway early Monday near Alvarado Street.
The 3-vehicle collision occurred around 4 a.m. on May 8th, according to the California Highway Patrol and KTLA 5 News.
Authorities say the collision resulted after a wrong-way motorist collided with two other vehicles in the southbound lanes of the 101 Freeway, the California Highway Patrol said.
The CHP received a 911 call prior to the collision alerting them to a wrong-way driver heading north in the southbound lanes of the 101 Freeway.
Two vehicles became fully engulfed in flames and one person was pinned inside a vehicle, the report said.
The Los Angeles Fire Department responded and pronounced one person dead and extricated a second person using the Jaws of Life. They took one person to a hospital in unknown condition and treated two others for minor injuries at the scene.
Police issued a SigAlert and closed down all southbound lanes of the freeway at Melrose Avenue.
Investigators are working on the case to determine fault for the collision.
