Child, 6, Killed, Driver Arrested on DUI, Manslaughter Charges
RICHMOND, Calif. (April 26, 2024) — Amadeo Alvarez Jr., 6, died and four others were injured in a suspected DUI crash at Carlson and Cutting boulevards in Richmond.
The two-vehicle collision occurred at around 7:29 p.m. on April 17th, according to a report by The Mercury News.
The 6-year-old Little Leaguer died in the violent crash when a suspected DUI driver crashed into a vehicle he was riding in with family members.
Ramiro Rojas-Barrios, 29, was driving a vehicle that crashed into a parked car near a taco truck, but he fled the scene traveling at roughly 70 to 80 mph before crashing into a family’s vehicle. Amadeo Alvarez Jr., 6, was among those injured in the crash, but was the only one who died. The others were taken to a hospital for undisclosed injuries.
Police arrested the suspect and charged him with vehicular manslaughter, among other charges.
Meanwhile, the family has a GoFundMe to raise money for the child’s burial and support those injured in the crash.
