Bicycle Rider Killed in Crash with Motorcyclist Fleeing Parks Police
CARLSBAD, Calif. (August 26, 2022) — Brad Allen Catcott, 68, of Solana Beach, died while riding a bicycle in a collision with a motorcycle rider on Carlsbad Boulevard near Carlsbad State Beach.
The deadly crash occurred about 1 p.m. on August 15th, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
A California State Parks officer was attempting to stop the 28-year-old motorcycle rider when the crash occurred.
The motorcyclist, riding together with a 22-year-old female passenger, was apparently speeding and driving recklessly while traveling northbound on Carlsbad Boulevard. That’s when he allegedly struck the victim later identified as Brad Catcott, the report said. The bicycle rider had just left the bicycle lane and had moved to a turning lane at the time of the accident.
Paramedics responded to help those hurt in the crash, but sadly, Brad Catcott died at the scene.
Meanwhile, both the motorcycle rider and his passenger suffered serious injuries and were both taken to a hospital.
There is an ongoing investigation into the crash by the Carlsbad Police Dept., California State Parks and San Diego County District Attorney’s Office.
