Woman Killed in Crash on Highway 99
GALT, Calif. (May 7, 2021) – Carole Kooyers, 29, of Stockton, died Sunday, May 2nd following a suspected DUI car crash on Highway 99.
The Stockton woman was a passenger in a 2002 Chevy Silverado pickup truck traveling about 70 mph southbound on Highway 99. Just north of Twin Cities Road, the driver made a turning movement toward the left side of the traffic lanes. The vehicle then slammed into a wood post metal guardrail in the center median. As a result, the vehicle rolled over on the gravel shoulder of Highway 99.
Carole Kooyers was ejected from the pickup truck. Meanwhile, paramedics located the woman unconscious and lying off the roadway. Despite life saving efforts from responding medical personnel, she sadly succumbed to her injuries. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Carole Kooyers on their website. Police mentioned that she and the driver were not wearing seatbelts.
Investigators conducted a DUI sobriety check on the driver. The 37-year-old Stockton man was subsequently arrested the man for felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, according to Fox 40 News.
The driver suffered major injuries and was taken to the hospital.
