Cassandra May Fatal Kearney Mesa Pedestrian Accident Convoy Street, Othello Avenue

Woman Killed in Pedestrian Accident; Driver Arrested

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (June 10, 2022) – Cassandra May, 40, died in a pedestrian accident Tuesday at Convoy Street and Othello Avenue in the Kearney Mesa area of San Diego.

The collision occurred about 8:30 a.m. on June 7th, the San Diego Union-Tribune News reports.

Meanwhile, Frank William Shoat, 39, was arrested following the crash and is charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. He plead not guilty on Thursday, June 9th in San Diego Superior Court.

Deadly Crash at Kearney Mesa Intersection

The deadly crash occurred on Tuesday as Frank Shoat drove his Tesla west on Othello Avenue. The motorist allegedly sped through a red light at the intersection with Convoy Street, police said. That’s when the Tesla struck a dip in the roadway and the car went airborne. The Tesla veered to the right and up onto the sidewalk where the car struck Cassandra May as she walked on Convoy Street. The car also struck a traffic sign and a tree.

Responding paramedics transported her by ambulance to a hospital, but she later died a few hours later from her injuries.

Meanwhile, authorities investigating the case say the driver appeared to be unaware of the crash or the fact that he hit a pedestrian. After he allegedly failed some field sobriety tests, he admitted to police he bought “Dust Off” prior to the crash. He also had a history of huffing chemicals. Police reportedly arrested the driver of the Tesla on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.

Investigators continue to work on the case.
