Driver Hits 5-year-old Child on Crest Road in Merced County
MERCED COUNTY, Calif. (April 16, 2024) — A truck driver struck and injured a five-year-old child in a pedestrian accident on Crest Road near Muir Avenue in Atwater.
The pedestrian accident occurred at around 5 p.m. on April 15th in Merced County, according to ABC 30 News.
Paramedics responded and requested a helicopter to airlift the seriously injured child to a trauma center in Fresno for further treatment.

Meanwhile, the driver stopped and remained at the scene where he or she was questioned about the circumstances leading up to the collision.
Investigators are working to determine fault for the Atwater pedestrian accident on Crest Road, but preliminary results indicate that drugs and/or alcohol were not factors in the crash.
Atwater Traffic Statistics
There were 13 pedestrians injured and or killed in traffic accidents in Atwater in 2021, according to statistics compiled by the Office of Traffic Safety. However, there was only one pedestrian accident involving a child under 15 years old that year. Meanwhile, the city ranked 17th out of 93 similar size California cities for pedestrian collisions and was 10th with 154 incidents for all traffic accidents involving injuries and deaths, the report said.
