SUV Crashes into CHP Officers, SUV on 105 Freeway in Downey Area
DOWNEY, Calif. (April 28, 2022) — A Downey crash on the 105 Freeway early Thursday morning left three California Highway Patrol officers with injuries.
An alleged DUI driver crashed his SUV into a patrol vehicle stopped on the eastbound Glenn Anderson (105) Freeway.
The CHP vehicle erupted in flames upon impact about 1:24 a.m. on April 28th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash forced a closure on the freeway for several hours near the Lakewood Boulevard off-ramp from the 105 Freeway.
Witnesses told authorities the suspected drunk driver was speeding prior to the collision.
The injured CHP officers were stopped on the freeway while responding to a separate crash on the freeway.
There were two police officers inside the patrol car at the time of the crash. The third was standing outside of the vehicle. Some good Samaritans helped the two officers in the patrol car get out of the vehicle.
Paramedics responded and transported the two, less seriously hurt to the hospital. At least one of them went to St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood A CHP officer who responded to help the others, transported the badly-injured officer to the hospital in his police vehicle.
Apparently, the two officers inside the vehicle were treated for moderate injuries and the one outside of the car had serious injuries.
Meanwhile, police arrested the female driver in the SUV on suspicion of DUI.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
