PANORAMA CITY, Calif. (Feb. 1, 2023) — Chris Teagarden and Tim Schultz both died in a crash involving a police pursuit of a stolen car on Woodman Avenue in Panorama City.
The deadly collision occurred about 7:48 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 31st, according to the Los Angeles Police Department and MyNewsLA.
LAPD officers were following a stolen black Toyota Tacoma pickup truck on South Alvarado Street when the driver, identified as Oscar Delacruz, 32, attempted to evade police and sped off. They led police on a high-speed pursuit from the Westlake district to Panorama City.
The stolen pickup truck reportedly T-boned a Honda Civic occupied by Chris Teagarden and Tim Schultz on Woodman Avenue. One of the occupants from the Honda died at the scene and the other died in an ambulance on the way to a hospital.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff Coroner later identified the two friends from the Honda as Chris Teagarden, 46, of Granada Hills, and Tim Schultz, 49.
Meanwhile, the two suspects from the stolen pickup truck fled on foot, but were soon apprehended by police and shot with a Taser gun during the arrest.
Finally, police booked Oscar Delacruz, 32, into jail on suspicion of murder. He is being held without
bail. However, there is no further information about the second suspect from the stolen vehicle.
The collision remains under investigation.
