COSTA MESA, Calif. (March 6, 2023) — A Costa Mesa motorcycle accident involving several cars happened Monday morning on the Interstate 405 Freeway, just north of Fairview Road.
The multi-vehicle crash occurred in the southbound lanes of the I-405 about 6:52 a.m. on March 6th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Witnesses told authorities the motorcyclist was “splitting lanes” prior to crashing into the back of a Nissan Sentra. However, the driver in the Nissan told authorities they were exiting and this means they possibly changed lanes in front of the bike. The motorcyclist went down in the middle lane of the freeway. Meanwhile, the CHP report stated a Toyota RAV 4 and a Lexus were also reportedly involved and vehicles blocked the No. 4 lane.
The Costa Mesa Fire Department responded to help the motorcycle rider who was bleeding and suffered undisclosed injuries.
Meanwhile, at least one tow truck came to remove the bike, but it’s unknown if any of the cars were taken.
Finally, the CHP is heading up an investigation into liability for the motorcycle accident on the 405 Freeway.
