Woman Struck, Killed on SR-78 in Vista
SAN DIEGO COUNTY, Calif. (Nov. 9, 2021) — Courtney Terese Dyar, 27, of Oceanside, died Sunday in a Vista pedestrian accident on State Route 78 at Emerald Drive.
The deadly crash happened some time before 5 a.m. on Nov. 7th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
UPDATE: Driver arrested for deadly State Route 78 pedestrian accident
Authorities say the young woman allegedly walked around a road construction sign and stepped into the westbound lanes of State Route 78. A vehicle struck Courtney Dyar and continued driving, but roughly an hour later returned to the scene and found the woman lying on the right shoulder near the No. 4 lane. The driver drove to a nearby gas station and called 911 for help. CHP officers arrived at the scene before paramedics and began CPR on the victim. Oceanside firefighters arrived a short time after and pronounced the woman dead at 6:04 a.m.
There are no further details at this time. The San Diego Medical Examiner identified the woman on its website.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the circumstances and will determine fault for the Vista pedestrian accident.
