Suspected DUI Driver Hits, Kills Father of 4 on I-15 Freeway
ESCONDIDO, Calif. (Sept. 22, 2022) – Delfino Gonzalez, 39, of Escondido, was struck by a suspected DUI driver as he walked on the Interstate 15 Freeway after running out of gas.
The fatal crash occurred just after 4 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18th, according to San Diego (10) News.
Delfino Gonzalez was heading home from his job as a lighting and sound technician at a San Diego nightclub when he apparently ran out of gas, San Diego News reported.
A 23-year-old man driving a Lexus struck Delfino Gonzalez in a northbound lane, just north of Miramar Road, according to the California Highway Patrol. The Escondido man suffered major injuries and died at the scene.
Meanwhile, police arrested the young driver identified as Cyrus Peterson, 23, of San Diego.
Police believe the motorist was driving under the influence of drugs and or alcohol.
Delfino Gonzalez is survived by his wife and four children ages 4 to 15 years old, according to a GoFundMe organized to help his family.
The crash remains under investigation.
