Diego Cardoso de Oliveira ID'd as Victim of San Francisco Bus Stop Crash

3 Family Members Killed in Bus Stop Collision Identified

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (March 20, 2024) — Three people killed in a crash at a San Francisco bus stop are identified as Diego Cardoso de Oliveira, 40, his wife, Matilde Moncada Ramos Pinto, 38, and their one-year-old son, Joaquin Ramos Pinto de Oliveira.

The couple and their toddler son died, but their infant son survived and is fighting for his life after an SUV crashed into the family waiting near a San Francisco Muni bus stop at Ulloa and Lenox Way.

The family was waiting for the bus to take them to the San Francisco Zoo when the deadly crash claimed their lives at around noon on Saturday, March 16th, according to CBS News.

Mary Fong Lau, 78, was driving a Mercedes SUV that was traveling in the wrong direction in the eastbound lanes of Ulloa Street. Authorities believe her speed was an estimated 50 to 70 miles per hour, CBS reported. The vehicle crashed into the family at the bus stop, killing the 18-month-old boy who was in a stroller and his father on scene.

Fatal Pedestrian Accident

Paramedics responded and rushed the younger boy and his mother to a hospital with major injuries, but the 38-year-old woman died at the hospital shortly after. The victims lived in the Mission District, but the father is a citizen of Brazil. Also, the couple were celebrating a wedding anniversary on the day of the crash, the report said.

Walk San Francisco, a pedestrian advocacy group, is organizing a vigil for the victims at 5 p.m. on Monday, March 18th at the crash site.

Meanwhile, the driver was also hospitalized with undisclosed injuries.

Investigators are working on the case and attempting to piece together what happened and whether any criminal charges will be filed against the unidentified driver.
