Fiery Fatal Fallbrook Crash on I-15 Freeway
FALLBROOK, Calif. (June 4, 2021) — A fatal Fallbrook wrong-way crash happened early Friday on the northbound side of I-15 near Mission Road.
One of the vehicles burst into flames after the other hit the vehicle head-on while traveling in the wrong direction in the Fallbrook area.
Police reported the two-vehicle crash just after 4 a.m. on the I-15 near Mission Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP said a vehicle was going southbound in the northbound fast lane when it collided with a car head-on. Moments later, the northbound vehicle caught fire.
Witnesses stopped and pulled the driver out of the fully-engulfed vehicle. Next, paramedics transported the man to a hospital for treatment of major injuries.
The wrong-way driver survived to informed police that he was coming from the Los Angeles area. He believed he was on the I-5 Freeway in Encinitas, but police soon learned the man was driving under the influence of drugs and or alcohol. Police arrested the man and he was taken to a hospital for evaluation, according to ABC 10 News.
Due to the collision there were multiple lanes closed down on both sides of the Interstate 15.
