GOSHEN, Calif. (Jan. 10, 2022) — Two people died Tuesday morning when a large tree fell on the northbound Highway 99 near the Betty Drive on ramp in near Visalia.
The drivers of a motorcycle and a large Ford truck both died in the incident about 5:56 a.m. on Jan. 10th in the Goshen area, according to a California Highway Patrol dispatch.
The tree was reportedly hit by lightening and fell down on top of the truck and across traffic lanes. The motorcycle rider crashed into the tree and the bike caught on fire upon impact in the middle lane.
Additionally, there were three other vehicles including a red Toyota Venza SUV that crashed with the tree, the center divider and or each other. Those motorists reported minor injuries and property damage. The tree and vehicles blocked three lanes of the highway.
CHP officers and firefighters from Tulare County Fire responded to the location and they reported the motorcycle rider died at the scene. The truck driver also was found deceased inside the truck.
Meanwhile, tow trucks came to remove the vehicles and a chainsaw crew began to cut up the tree and move it off the roadway.
Investigators are working on the case.
