Woman Struck, Killed on Niles Street in Bakersfield
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (April 23, 2024) — A fatal pedestrian accident happened late Monday night on Niles Street, just east of Vale Street in Bakersfield.
The collision occurred at around 11 p.m. on Monday, April 22nd when the victim was struck by a vehicle while crossing Niles Street outside of a crosswalk, according to California Highway Patrol and KGET.
CHP officers determined the woman had been walking northbound across the eastbound lanes of Niles Street when an oncoming Kia struck her.

Paramedics responded and rushed the unidentified woman to Kern County Medical Center with major injuries, but she died at 2:31 a.m. the next morning.
Furthermore, the Kern County Coroner’s office will identify the victim after her relatives have been notified.
Meanwhile, there were no injuries reported from the two occupants in the Kia.
CHP officials say the are investigating the cause of the crash, but do not suspect alcohol and drugs were factors.

Bakersfield Accident Statistics
Roughly 135 people were injured or killed in a Bakersfield pedestrian accidents in 2021, according to the latest traffic statistics compiled by the Office of Traffic Safety. The city ranked 8th out of 15 similar size California cities for its number of pedestrian accidents.
Furthermore, some 291 of the 1,863 injury or fatal crashes in the city involved a hit-and-run motorist, the report said. Also, the city ranked in ninth place among California cities with similar populations.
