Bicyclist Killed in Car Accident Near Ophir Elementary School
PLACER COUNTY, Calif. (March 19, 2024) — A fatal bicycle accident happened Monday morning on Lozanos Road, just south of Wise Road near Ophir Elementary School.
The collision occurred at around 10:52 a.m. on March 18th, just north of Chili Hill Road, according to the Auburn station of the California Highway Patrol.
The driver of a white commercial van and or a Peterbilt tractor trailer truck struck an unidentified woman as she was riding a bicycle in front of 1373 Lozanos Road, the CHP said.
The bicycle rider went down in the roadway and suffered fatal injuries.
Meanwhile, a tow truck removed the big rig truck with two fully-loaded trailers from the scene for an evidence tow, the report said.
“As we come to terms with this heartbreaking event, let us remember the importance of road safety and vigilance, particularly for vulnerable road users such as cyclists,” the CHP Auburn report said. “Let us also extend our gratitude to the first responders who bravely attend to such tragedies and work tirelessly to keep our communities safe.”
Investigators are working to determine fault for the bicycle accident on Lozanos Road.
