Cyclist Hit by Two Drivers, One Fled

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, Calif. (March 8, 2024) — A fatal bicycle accident happened Thursday night on South Melrose Drive at Buena Vista Drive in Vista, San Diego County.

Two drivers struck the victim at around 10:28 p.m., at the Vista intersection, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department and the Times of San Diego.

The cyclist was struck by the first motorist who stopped, but a second motorist in a white SUV or crossover SUV hit the rider and fled the scene without stopping.

Paramedics responded to the scene, but unfortunately the bicyclist died at the scene, police said.

Meanwhile, the sheriff’s department was on scene to investigate the crash and they are searching for the suspect who fled.

Witnesses may call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477 and could receive up to $1,000 in reward money if their tip leads to an arrest.
