1 Dead 4 Injured Carmel Valley Crash on Interstate 5 Freeway (UPDATED)
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (June 1, 2021) – A fatal Carmel Valley crash on the I-5 Freeway left one person dead and four injured early Tuesday in the Carmel Valley area.
The wrong-way head-on crash happened about 12:50 a.m. on the southbound side of the Interstate 5 Freeway at Carmel Valley Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A white Honda Civic sedan traveling southbound on the highway and reportedly collided head-on with a Dodge Magnum. The Dodge then struck a black Ford pickup truck.
Wrong-Way, Head-On Crash in Carmel Valley
Three people became trapped in the Honda and suffered major injuries. Paramedics responded to help them, but unfortunately, a 52-year-old passenger in the white sedan died at the scene. The 42-year-old man driving the Dodge and the 32-year-old man driving the pickup truck also suffered major injuries.
Meanwhile, ambulances transported the three drivers and one passenger to hospitals with major injuries.
Investigators closed down the on-ramp from Carmel Valley to southbound Interstate 5 Freeway.
The cause of the fatal Carmel Valley crash and liability is yet to be determined. Investigators with the CHP asked witnesses to call them at (858) 293-6000.
