Wrong Way Driver Killed in Crash on I-605 Freeway
CERRITOS, Calif. (August 22, 2022) — A fatal wrong-way driver crash in Cerritos happened Saturday night on the Interstate 605 Freeway near Alondra Boulevard.
The collision occurred about 6:30 p.m. on August 20th, according to the California Highway Patrol and the Long Beach Patch.
The motorist was apparently traveling in a black sedan northbound in the southbound lanes of the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway, the CHP report said.
The driver eventually crashed head-on into a silver pickup truck. Upon impact, the wrong-way driver was thrown out of the vehicle and crashed through the windshield, police said. Sadly, the man died at the scene of the collision.
It’s unknown what injuries the second motorist may have had from the crash.
Investigators with the CHP are working on the case.
