Woman, 2 Children Killed in Head-on Crash Amid Downpour

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. (April 1, 2024) — Alicia M. Ramos, 43, her 13-year-old son Isaac, and an 11-year-old boy named Mateo from another car died Saturday in a violent Easter weekend crash on the Interstate 15 Freeway.

Seven others were hospitalized after the two-vehicle collision that occurred at around 1:40 p.m. on March 30th near Baker near Halloran Springs Road in San Bernardino County. according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP officials reported a driver in a gray 2019 Kia SUV was southbound on the I-15 when the vehicle hydroplaned during a downpour of rain, the Orange County Register reports. The Kia reportedly veered across the southbound lanes, crossed the median and entered the northbound lanes. That’s where the Kia and a 2016 Mercedes GLE 350 SUV crashed head-on, police said.

The 43-year-old woman and her teenage son were from Madera and were traveling in the Kia. The boy died at the scene and the woman on the way to Barstow Community Hospital. An 11-year-old Los Angeles boy who was in the Mercedes also died.

Meanwhile, the other four people in the Kia and the three others in the Mercedes were transported to Barstow Community Hospital for treatment of severe injuries. One of the injured was a 3-year-old child with a severed arm and a 40-year-old woman was possibly paralyzed, Victor Valley News reports.
