Deadly Crash on River Road at Korbel Winery
KORBEL, Calif. (Oct. 7, 2021) — A fatal crash at the Korbel Winery on River Road Thursday morning involved a pickup truck and a Sonoma County Transit bus.
The collision happened about 11:56 a.m. on Oct. 7th in Korbel which is an unincorporated community in Humboldt County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A driver in an eastbound Toyota Tacoma pickup truck reportedly collided with a westbound transit bus in front of the main entrance to the winery. The driver was ejected during the collision and died at the scene. Additionally, bus driver, Michael Hein, 26, of Sebastopol, suffered minor injuries.
The fatal crash blocked the westbound lane of the roadway. Traffic is being diverted to Odd Fellows Park Road, but the eastbound lane remains open on River Road.
There are no further details about the collision at this time. Investigators will seek to determine liability for the collision.
