2 Killed, 1 Injured in High-Speed Solo Crash
FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (March 19, 2024) — Jason Phillips, 24, and Chase McCutcheon, 32, both of Fresno, died Monday in fatal crash at Copper Avenue and Willow Avenue in Fresno County.
The collision occurred at around 1:45 a.m. on Monday, March 18th, according to a press release by the Fresno County Sheriff’s Department.
The Fresno Area California Highway Patrol (CHP) Communication Center sent deputies and paramedics to the crash scene on Copper Avenue, just east of Willow Avenue, the report said.
The two men were the driver and front passenger of a Tesla Model 3. The car was allegedly heading west on Copper Avenue at high speed when it hit a curb, a street sign and a guardrail before overturning. As it overturned, the electric vehicle also hit another cement curb and guardrail, the report said. Both men were ejected from the vehicle as they were not wearing their seatbelts. They sustained major injuries and died at the crash scene.
Meanwhile, a third man who was seated in the back of the vehicle and wearing a seatbelt survived the crash with moderate injuries. The unidentified person was transported by ambulance to Community Regional Medical Center for further treatment.
Authorities are looking into whether or not the driver of the vehicle was drinking. The three had reportedly been together celebrating St. Patrick’s Day.
