2-Vehicle Collision on State Route 4 Near Hercules
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, Calif. (April 15, 2024) — A fatal crash happened Sunday night on Highway 4 under the Willow Avenue overpass in the Hercules area of Contra Costa County.
The deadly crash occurred at around 11:54 p.m. on April 14th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP’s Contra Costa deputies responded to the two-vehicle crash in the westbound lanes of Highway 4, just east of the Interstate 80 Freeway.
The drivers of a grey 2016 Jeep Wrangler and a silver 2001 Buick Regal sedan were both heading westbound on State Route 4 when they collided after one possibly rear-ended the other vehicle. The Jeep wound up in the bushes on the side of the road and the car was in the center divide area.
Unfortunately, the driver of the Buick suffered major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, the report said. Meanwhile, the driver of the Jeep did not appear to be injured.
Tow trucks removed the Buick due to major rear-end damage and the Jeep with unknown damage for evidence.
Meanwhile, investigators working on the case reported the driver of the Buick was unrestrained in the vehicle at the time of the collision.
The cause of the crash will be determined after police complete their investigation. Finally, police are asking witnesses to contact the CHP Contra Costa in Martinez, (925) 646-4980.
