Man, Woman Killed, 2 Injured in Collision
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (Feb. 15, 2024) — A man and woman were killed Thursday morning after their Mini Cooper stalled on the Bay Bridge near Treasure Island Island in San Francisco.
The deadly crash occurred in the No. 4 lane of the eastbound I-80 Freeway at around 4:15 a.m. on Feb. 15th, according to the California Highway Patrol dispatch.
Fatal Crash San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge
Three people were riding in the car on the lower deck of the San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge when the vehicle stalled in traffic lanes. A driver in a white Toyota Tacoma pickup truck reportedly crashed into the back of the smaller car, the report said.
San Francisco firefighters responded and confirmed the death of the driver and a rear passenger upon their arrival, but the front-seat passenger survived with major injuries. They rushed the surviving passenger by ambulance to San Francisco General Hospital. The pickup truck driver was also taken to a hospital in unknown condition.
Police issued a SigAlert for the eastbound side of the I-80, just west of Treasure Island until about 6:46 a.m., the report said.
Investigators are working to review bridge cameras in the area to confirm what happened and determine fault for the fatal crash on the Bay Bridge.
