3 Killed, 2 Injured in Deadly Collision at Bus Stop
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (March 18, 2024) — A couple and their toddler are dead and their infant son is fighting for his life after an SUV crashed into the family waiting near a San Francisco bus stop at Ulloa and Lenox Way.
The family was waiting for the bus to take them to the San Francisco Zoo when the deadly crash claimed their lives at around noon on Saturday, March 16th, according to CBS News.
An elderly driver in a Mercedes SUV was traveling in the wrong direction in the eastbound lanes of Ulloa Street at speeds estimated to be between 50 and 70 miles per hour, CBS reported. The vehicle crashed into the family at the bus stop, killing the 18-month-old boy who was in a stroller and his 40-year-old father on scene.
Fatal Pedestrian Accident
Paramedics responded and rushed the younger boy and his mother to a hospital with major injuries, but the 38-year-old woman died at the hospital shortly after. The victim’s names have not been released, but friends told CBS they lived in the Mission District. Also, the couple were celebrating a wedding anniversary on the day of the crash, the report said.
Walk San Francisco, a pedestrian advocacy group, is organizing a vigil for the victims at 5 p.m. on Monday, March 18th at the crash site.
Meanwhile, the driver was also hospitalized with undisclosed injuries.
Investigators are working on the case and attempting to piece together what happened and whether any criminal charges will be filed against the unidentified driver.
