Pedestrian Struck, Killed on I-8 Freeway
EL CAJON, Calif. (April 19, 2022) — A fatal pedestrian accident happened Monday night on Interstate 8 in El Cajon.
Three vehicles reportedly struck the man around 10:30 p.m. on April 18th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Prior to the El Cajon pedestrian accident, the victim was walking in westbound traffic lanes on the I-8, just west of state Route 67.
Sadly, the man suffered major injuries and died before he could be taken to a hospital, police said.
Two of the three drivers involved in the collision stopped. They are cooperating with the investigation, authorities said. A third driver failed to stop and fled the scene.
Police say one of the cars that stopped was a Kia Optima driven by a 36-year-old woman. Also, a 28-year-old driver in a Dodge Charger hit the pedestrian.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the victim’s name after family notification.
