Deadly Semi-Truck Crash Mount Whitney Avenue
FRESNO, Calif. (Oct. 15, 2021) — A fatal Mount Whitney Avenue crash between a truck and a car happened Thursday afternoon at Cedar avenue between Riverdale and Laton.
The deadly crash happened about 3:34 p.m. on Oct. 14th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP reports the semi-truck was traveling on Cedar Avenue and stopped at Mount Whitney Avenue. The truck then continued into the intersection to cross Mount Whitney Avenue and collided with an oncoming white Mercedes that crashed underneath the truck’s trailer.
The Mercedes went directly underneath the truck and through the other side until it stopped off the roadway. The top half of the car was completely flattened during the crash.
During the crash with the truck, the Mercedes driver was ejected and died at the scene.
There were no other occupants in the Mercedes and the truck driver did not report any injuries.
Investigators are working to piece together what happened, but preliminary findings indicate that speed may be a factor in the crash.
