Fatal Pedestrian Accident on Highway 101, near Berryessa Road in San Jose

Man Struck and Killed on Highway 101

SAN JOSE, Calif. (March 28, 2024) — A fatal pedestrian accident happened Thursday morning in the northbound lanes of Highway 101 in San Jose.

The deadly crash occurred at around 3:40 a.m. on Thursday, March 28th, between Berryessa Road and McKee Road, according to the California Highway Patrol and KRON 4 News.

CHP officers responded first headed to the scene after a caller reported a pedestrian was nearly hit by a semi-truck while walking in the No. 4 slow lane.

However, by the time they arrived, the man had been struck and killed by a driver in a blue 2006 Chrysler sedan driven by Maria Ortega, 62, of San Jose.

She had stopped and called authorities after the collision.

Paramedics responded and pronounced the pedestrian dead on scene and treated Maria Ortega for moderate injuries from the crash, the CHP said. Meanwhile, a 58-year-old passenger in the Chrysler was not hurt.

Investigators are working to determine fault for the San Jose pedestrian accident.
