2 Killed in Rollover Accident on Highway 299
REDDING, Calif. (Feb. 16, 2024) – Two people died in a crash on Highway 299, just west of Grizzly Gulch Road Wednesday night in the Redding area..
The deadly crash occurred at around 10:58 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 14th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials reported Shane Grimes, 39, was the driver of a 2002 Ford Ranger pickup truck traveling westbound on Highway 299. The truck also had two passengers and was driving at around 50 mph., the report said.
Authorities were told that the driver fell asleep while driving and the vehicle went off the north edge of Highway 299 and careened down an embankment. The pickup truck overturned during the crash and landed on its roof.
Shane Grimes managed to exit the vehicle and called 911 for help, but the man and woman riding with him sustained fatal injuries. The identities of the victims were no released.
The CHP reported that none of the occupants were wearing their seatbelts.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation and it’s unknown if any charges are pending at this time.
