Multi-Vehicle Crash in Richmond on I-80 Freeway
RICHMOND, Calif. (August 31, 2022) — One person is dead, another injured following a multi-vehicle crash Wednesday on the eastbound Interstate 80 Freeway in Richmond.
The 3-vehicle crash occurred about 2:49 a.m. on August 31st, just east of Hilltop Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol dispatch.
A driver in a white pickup truck collided with a big rig truck and then crashed into the center divider of the freeway. The pickup suffered major front-end damage in the crash. Meanwhile, an oncoming silver SUV then hit the pickup truck and one of the vehicles overturned onto its roof. The two vehicles were “merged together,” the CHP report said.
Additionally, a witness told CHP dispatch operators that the driver in the big rig truck continued down the freeway without stopping.
One person died in the crash and a man was airlifted to Kaiser Richmond for treatment of major injuries.
Police diverted traffic towards Hilltop Drive and authorities are investigating the cause of the crash and liability.
