Multi-Vehicle Fatal Crash on Blanco and Hitchcock Roads
MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (Oct. 21, 2021) — A fatal Salinas crash on Blanco Road left one person dead and others injured Thursday afternoon at Hitchcock Road in Monterey County.
A preliminary report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) states a driver in a gray vehicle, possibly a Nissan Altima, was heading towards Salinas. The car reportedly crashed into a black 2014 Nissan Pathfinder SUV as it attempted to pass a white Chevrolet Camaro. The Nissan subsequently overturned and the driver inside was not wearing a seatbelt, police said. The SUV suffered major top damage. The vehicles also collided with a silver 4-door 2012 Honda Accord. The car suffered severe damaged in the crash. Also, one side is missing a portion of its roof on one side, police said.
The motorist believed to be in the Nissan suffered major injuries. The report indicates the person died at the scene of the Salinas crash. Additionally, there are two other people were injured due to the Salinas crash. Paramedics transported at least one of them by ambulance to a hospital.
Paramedics transported another person involved in the crash to the hospital.
CHP officials closed down both directions of Blanco Road due to the 4-vehicle crash investigation.
Liability for the deadly crash remains under investigation by the CHP.
