Pedestrian Struck, Killed on Highway 101
SALINAS, CALIF. (March 4, 2024) — A fatal pedestrian accident happened Sunday night on Highway 101, just south of Boronda Road in Salinas.
The traffic accident occurred at around 10:50 p.m. on March 3rd when the victim stepped into the path of a driver in the southbound number one lane of the highway, according to the California Highway Patrol dispatch.
Charles Donovan, 73, of Oakland, was driving a black Volvo and attempted to avoid hitting the victim, but was unable to and struck the person in the roadway, KION TV reports. The victim died at the scene, but has not been identified at this time.
Also, a second motorist in a light-colored vehicle was traveling in the No. 2 lane collided with the Volvo on its passenger side, but failed to stop.
The Oakland man stopped his vehicle and cooperated with the police investigation into the fatal Salinas pedestrian accident.
