Deadly Head-on Crash on SR-52 in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (August 26, 2022) – A fatal, head-on crash happened early Friday on the westbound state Route Highway 52, just east of the Interstate 805 Freeway.
The collision occurred about 2:41 a.m. on August 26th in the Kearny Mesa area, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials reported one person died in the collision and a second person suffered undisclosed injuries in the two-vehicle crash.
The drivers of a red sedan and a pickup truck reportedly crashed head-on near Convoy Street, authorities said.
A driver in a semi-truck apparently stopped to help those involved in the crash prior to the arrival of police and paramedics.
One person from the red car died at the crash scene, but the pickup truck driver survived with undisclosed injuries. Paramedics transported the person to a hospital.
Meanwhile, both damaged vehicles were towed for evidence.
Investigators are working on the case to determine fault for the crash. Police are working on the case to determine if one of the motorists was a wrong-way driver.
