Driver Arrested DUI Charges after Sun Valley Crash Kills Passenger
SUN VALLEY, Calif. (May 6, 2021) — A fatal Sun Valley crash on the Interstate 5 Freeway happened early Thursday near Sheldon Street.
A 26-year-old La Canada man died in the 1 a.m. crash. The victim was ejected from a Lexus driven by a suspected drunk driver.
Meanwhile, the 27-year-old North Hollywood woman driving the 2003 Lexus IS300 has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and or drugs, the California Highway Patrol reports.
2-Vehicle Crash on I-5 Freeway in Sun Valley
The man and woman were traveling southbound on the I-5 freeway at a high rate of speed in the No. 3 lane. The Lexus allegedly drifted out of its lane and sideswiped a BMW 325i in the No. 2 lane. The impact caused the Lexus to veer off to the right shoulder of the freeway where it went up an embankment and overturned, police said. Additionally, the unidentified male passenger was thrown out of the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries. Also, his name will be released after family members are notified of his death.
Meanwhile, the driver 39-year-old Beverly Hills man driving the BMW was not injured, the CHP reported. However, the Lexus driver was treated for minor injuries.
