Pedestrian Possibly Hit While Stopped to Repair Disabled Vehicle
YORBA LINDA (April 1, 2024) – A male pedestrian was killed this morning when he was struck while standing in lanes of the Riverside (91) Freeway in the Yorba Linda area.
The fatal crash happened at 12:10 a.m. in the westbound lanes of the Riverside Freeway, just east of Gypsum Canyon Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP reported there was a red sedan was on the right shoulder. A witness told police there was a male standing in the Nos. 2 and 3 lanes who was “trying to touch vehicles and get them to stop.”
Later at 12:22 a.m., police were told by a witness there was a large unknown item in traffic lanes and vehicles were nearly hitting it.
Police are investigating whether or not the pedestrian was hit while attempting to repair a disabled car.
The Orange County coroner’s office responded and the CHP closed down all westbound traffic lanes, except for the HOV lanes at 12:37 a.m. to conduct their investigation.
